Exeter Ethiopia Link
EEL works on sustainable development projects in Western Ethiopia with local partners. It is run entirely by volunteers and although originally formed in Exeter it now has contacts UK wide. In the past 10 years, it has set up and run over 40 primary school libraries, 50 school disability clubs, seven disability associations and supported a local eye clinic.
Projects
School Libraries
EEL seeks to fund a school librarian in 34 primary schools. The librarian ensures the school library is open for grade 5-8 students and on average 575 children a month access each school library.
In addition, the role of a librarian provides vital employment to a school leaver (usually female) where youth unemployment is over 40% and a means for them to support their family or continue their studies
Cost of Librarian: £200 per year plus £1.50 per additional book for library

Schools Disability Clubs
EEL funds school disability clubs across 50 schools. The disability club had two purposes.
-
Carry out activities that supported the integration of CwDs with non-disabled children.
-
To create an income generating scheme that earns income to support CwDs with the purchase of stationary (Exercise books and pens which is a barrier to entry in school)
On average the disability club is attended by around 25-30 students)
Cost for a Disability Club £100
