Welcome Zambia Orphans Aid UK to Connecting for Education

Zambia Orphans Aid Uk has joined our website.

What do they provide:

Remove financial barriers to accessing education: working with our grassroots community schools 600 disadvantaged girls and boys will access local schools. School/exam fees & vouchers or small grants for school uniforms, shoes & other requisites will be provided. Transport contributions (where necessary) will keep children safe when taking the long journey to school. After primary school, girls are especially vulnerable as if they don’t transition to secondary seamlessly puberty creates additional pressures, with early marriage, pregnancy & access to sanitary products all major barriers. Many girls are forced to get jobs & never return to school. Secondary qualifications will help graduates access jobs leading to significantly improved prospects.

Address Psychological barriers to participating in education: children ZOA works with experience extreme poverty and many have lost one or both parents. We will improve the ability of local community schools in particularly disadvantaged communities in Zambia to provide targeted social support to 1,500 children, by training frontline workers to roll out counselling services to address classroom-related anxiety and improve children's wellbeing.

Training teachers and healthcare workers whilst boosting social mobility: each year we support 30 disadvantaged Zambian school leavers to access tertiary training in vocational subjects such as teaching and healthcare. Once trained these graduates will be able to help the development of their country whilst earning a salary that could help lift their entire family out of poverty.
